Some traffic through SF, then a little worse traffic through Santa Cruz, before we get to our destination, Pacific Grove for the 5th annual Lighthouse Avenue VW Show & Shine!

 

John Steinbeck, Janis Joplin and Frank Zappa all lived here, Pacific Grove has been a bit of an artists haven since the late 1800's.  A morning walk on the coast, or a winter trip to the butterfly preserve will sell you on this beautiful town as well.  A stay in Pacific Grove that includes a visit to the near by Monterey Bay Aquarium is a perfect "weekend car" getaway.

 

The historic Laguna Seca Raceway is close by, and there's plenty of room for camping there.

8:00-8:30am - Morning Meet Up:

We’ll meet at the Safeway shopping center parking lot, in Mill Valley, in front of Mike’s Camera.  They won’t be open yet, so there should be plenty of room.

The shopping center has a Starbucks, a Bagel shop and a Safeway Market.  Arrive early enough to grab your supplies and meet in front of the camera shop around 8:00am— we’re out at 8:30.

 

9:00-10:00am - Golden Gate Bridge view point:

Bring your bagels & coffee to the dirt parking lot in front of the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito, 20 minutes down the road.  It’s great view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

 

After crossing the Golden Gate, we’ll head west on Geary, then follow the coast down to Half Moon Bay

 

11:30-1:00pm - Lunch:

1:15-1:45pm - Gas/Rest Half Moon Bay

There’s two gas stations south of lunch, one at Cabrillo Hwy and Main and the other a couple of doors down at Cabrillo and 92.  We’ll fill these places pretty good, so after fueling up, head south on Cabrillo Hwy.  There’s room to pull over and gather up just a little south.

 

Traffic through Santa Cruz can be pretty brutal.  We are shooting for a 4:30pm arrival at the Pacific Grove VW Show and Shine, otherwise the street won’t be closed yet.

Camping:  Laguna Seca Raceway has plenty of room.  Anywhere else will require early reservations, or checking back to grab a canceled reservation if full.

 

Hotel:  Borg’s Ocean Front Motel is very close to the Pacific Grove event, and right on the water.
