Wednesday, July 26 - Mill Valley to Laguna Seca

135 miles

Some traffic through SF, then a little worse traffic through Santa Cruz, before we get to the historic Laguna Seca race track.  I always thought this was where James Dean was headed, but it turns out that was nearby Salinas.  I went to Wikipedia for some help:

"The track was built in 1957 at a cost of $1.5 million raised from local businesses and individuals on part of the US Army's Fort Ord (a maneuver area and field artillery target range) after the nearby Pebble Beach Road Races were abandoned for being too dangerous. In 1974 the property was deeded over to the Monterey County Parks Department and continues to be part of the park system.

The first race, held on November 9, 1957, was won by Pete Lovely driving a Ferrari. In the intervening years, the track has hosted USRRC, Can-Am, Trans-Am, Formula 5000, IMSA GT, CART, Indy Car, American Le Mans Series, Grand American, Monterey Historic Automobile Races, Speed World Challenge, AMA (American Motorcyclist Association), WSBK Superbike World Championship and MotoGP motorcycle races (but 125/Moto3 and 250/Moto2 are not admitted)."

8:00-8:30am - Morning Meet Up:

We’ll meet at the Safeway shopping center parking lot, in Mill Valley, in front of Mike’s Camera.  They won’t be open yet, so there should be plenty of room.

The shopping center has a Starbucks, a Bagel shop and a Safeway Market.  Arrive early enough to grab your supplies and meet in front of the camera shop around 8:00am— we’re out at 8:30.

9:00-10:00am - Golden Gate Bridge view point:

Bring your bagels & coffee to the dirt parking lot in front of the Bay Area Discovery Museum in Sausalito, 20 minutes down the road.  It’s great view of the Golden Gate Bridge.

After crossing the Golden Gate, we’ll head west on Geary, then follow the coast down to Half Moon Bay
